About

We lived and served as missionaries in Managua, Nicaragua. We moved there in mid-2013, and we served at Nicaragua Christian Academy International (NCAI) and International Christian Fellowship. Tony was the Pre-K through grade 12 Art teacher and also taught publications. He coached the school’s fencing club and lead daily devotions with his 7th grade homeroom boys, as well as a small group during weekly chapel. He used his interaction with the students to foster relationships to train, disciple, support, and provide spiritual counsel.

Phyllis, an RN, worked as a resource person to fellow missionaries, NCAI, and local organizations. She organized and taught first aid and CPR classes for various organizations in Nicaragua, worked as a clinic nurse and administrative support person for AMOS Health and Hope, as well as worked with teams from the US for medical outreaches.  She also served as the school nurse and health teacher at NCAI. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she was also a part of the youth ministry leadership team and lead the school's student outreach program, SERVE. SERVE leads outreaches at the Ministerio International Mujeres en Acción (Women in Action International Ministry). The goal of this outreach is to use discipleship, English language learning, computer skills, tutoring, and art to prevent poor at-risk children from entering prostitution, drugs, and life on the streets.

Thomas Missions' focus on education and discipleship also included tuition, uniform, and school supply sponsorship.

Our two sons, Grant and Joel, live in Missouri where they are working toward furthering their careers.

NCAI is a school in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, with over 340 students enrolled from pre-school to high school. About half of the students are Nicaraguan nationals and half are from missionary and international families. NCA has started two national schools, which mirror the international curriculum in Spanish and serve the middle class of Nicaragua.

International Christian Fellowship is an English-speaking church that serves many of the North American missionaries in Managua. We have served on the praise and worship team and Phyllis has served on the women’s council.

Due to ongoing, violent civil unrest, we made the difficult decision in May 2018 to leave our home, personal possessions, ministry and friends in Nicaragua and have relocated our ministry to Missouri.
